Keeping true to their effortlessly sophisticated style, Mim Design has again created a home that oozes with architectural character and pizzazz. The AAP residence is not only nestled amongst Melbourne’s inner north suburb of Ivanhoe East but is also quite literally nestled amongst towering pin oak and golden elm trees. While the trees upon entry may look large in scale, their size and charming posture is the perfect indication as to what lies inside.

To begin with, the helicon staircase upon entry had us at hello. Offsetting the somewhat contemporary facade, the organic shape of the staircase adds a softening touch. Like all decisions made with this home, the staircase is thoughtfully finished with white polished plaster to capture and reflect the filtered light that stipples into the home through the neighbouring trees. Accentuating the role that form has in this home’s design, the large void that hovers over the formal living adds a heightened sense of grandeur.

Similar to Mim Design’s projects previously featured on est, the chosen material palette was one of minimal colour and an abundance of natural textures. Continuing from the exterior of the home, dark stained timber cladding lines the walls of the entry and formal living room, setting a moody and sophisticated tone. Take a step into the kitchen and lighter materials have been used for the cabinetry and splashback, tying in with the abundance of natural light that the floor to ceiling windows allow in. This juxtaposition of light and dark tones used throughout creates an interior that is timeless and differentiates each space from another.

Collaboration was at the heart of this project. Mim Design worked closely with the client and architect to ensure the project and clients vision for their home was delivered with meticulous precision. And it’s not hard to see the ample amount of thought and detail that went into creating such a picturesque home. From the striking facade to the bold and angular interior design, this home is definitely one we will remember for a long time.

“Mim Design’s final stage of furniture and art selection marries all of the form and function of the home together finishing off a beautifully handcrafted home”.
