Balancing both tradition and modernity is a common thread throughout all commercial and residential projects undertaken by the Montreal based multidisciplinary design agency, Appareil Architecture. With a design ethos driven by a desire to remain true to their Nordic roots, the Appareil team have redesigned this Piedmont based home in Quebec to reflect both the environment and the home owners needs.

Creating a link between the pre-existing house and the surrounding landscape, the newly added extension adds a fresh, new contemporary look that successfully compliments the homes original features. The old timber beams have been stripped back and revealed to further unify the traditional elements of the building with the contemporary renovation.

White washed walls and lime washed timber floors create a sense of light and space in the interior while stripped back timber beams add further character and warmth to the scheme.
