Emerging design practice MXM Design Studio bring luxurious accents to this modern, light-filled home in Canberra.
Interior design duo Madeleine Karrys and Marie Daaboul are the names behind up and coming design firm MXM. They’re also behind this contemporary new build in north Canberra, which immediately evokes a sense of charm and sophistication. With form and function front of mind, they’ve delivered a refined, minimalist aesthetic ‘without being simple’.
The home has a generous open-plan layout brimming with natural light. Floor-to-ceiling double-glazed windows frame the outskirts of the kitchen, living and dining space; this light diffused with gentle grey sheers. In the kitchen, a striking pairing of rich timber veneer and grey marble is contrasted with modest gold detailing; also visible in the custom, in-built tv unit. Black Hee Bar Stools from HAY allow for additional seating when required.
White walls, minimal architectural details and washed chevron floorboards provide a base for the enduring furniture used throughout the home. The Togo Settee by Ligne Roset asserts refined comfort in the living space, complemented by the Pampas Rug by Armadillo and the Louis Poulsen Panthella Floor Lamp.

Attention to detail reveals itself in the built-in nooks and cabinetry throughout, as well as the wardrobes and storage in the bedrooms. Gold trimming is repeated around the bathroom mirrors, on door hardware and in light fixtures, a constant nod to the eminent sense of sophistication.
Through curated furniture and finishes, MXM Design Studio have realised a modern home that delivers on aesthetic and function.

The master bedroom features the Grashoppa Task Light by Greta Grossman for Gubi.
