Brooklyn Home: We came across the work of designer Elizabeth Roberts at Ensemble Architecture after trawling the internet for apartments to buy in New York (yes, we agree that we are clearly living in our minds and not in reality – especially after seeing those apartment prices). This Chaplin townhouse Brooklyn’s Caroll Gardens screamed at us to take a closer inspection as soon as we clapped eyes on that sofa.
The owners of this historical home commissioned Elizabeth Roberts and team to strip back the previous renovation and restore the historical details and original finishes in order to create a home with both heritage and meaning. Several layers of lino were removed in order to reveal the original pine floorboards while false ceilings came down to lift the height of rooms throughout. Recreating selected details of the original building and its construction by Roberts has meant that this family home now speaks of provenance with a nod to modern day living. The perfect combination in our books of preferred aesthetics
