Est was proud to be involved (if even in a small way) with the BT Runway for Success event last week held at Australian Technology Park, not least to see emerging Australian designers supported in their homeland but also to be able to support such a fantastic non-for-profit organisation, Fitted for Work, whose sole aim since its beginning in 2005 has been to assist women experiencing disadvantage to get work – and to keep it. Last Thursday night over 5,000 items of clothing were donated and we could not be more thrilled with the result.
BT Runway for Success 2014 Emerging Fashion Designer Award winner Michael Lo Sordo
We were also incredibly excited for Michael Lo Sordo to be named winner of the 2014 BT Emerging Fashion Designer Award on the night, after being chosen by the band of judges led by Head Judge, Edwina McCann, Editor in Chief of Vogue Australia and Head of the Australian Fashion Chamber, alongside industry icons Carla Zampatti AC, Camilla Freeman-Topper, Janice Breen-Burns, Nicole Warne and Est’s new best friend (not sure that she is across that little fact mind you), Megan Quinn. The BT Runway for Success event was an amazing result, not only for the designers presenting their creations, but also for the guests who were able to order on the night after viewing the collections.
Since his debut in 2008 Lo Sordo, who’s star is clearly on the rise, has drawn lots of attention with his self titled label, for his structured, razor-sharp take on romantic minimalism. Lo Sordo showed his collection alongside finalists By Johnny and Strateas Carlucci. The Emerging Fashion Designer collections were followed by runway shows from some of Australia’s best known fashion labels – Bec & Bridge, Bianca Spender, Camilla and Marc, Carl Kapp, Carla Zampatti, Lee Mathews, Manning Cartell, Oroton and Willow.
Of course we can’t NOT talk about the hair! Fashion trends were supported on the evening by the latest in hair styles with Katie Reeve, Creative Director at Toni & Guy presenting unique styles for each of the designer showcases. Wish we could have our very own Katie at home – there need never be a bad hair day again.
