Durietz Design and Development welcome est inside their fastidious revival of a 1910 townhouse on the Spanish island of Mallorca.

Spanish design firm Durietz Design and Development add Camp Roig 31 to their portfolio of converted homes, manifesting their passion for protecting and restoring buildings with a rich history. Camp Roig 31 is situated at the foothills of the Tamarama Mountains and overlooks the twin peaks of Alaró on the Spanish island of Mallorca. The seven-bedroom home combines an Art Deco influence with Mallorcan heritage through an earthen palette, organic shapes and iconic design pieces.

Design duo Christoffer and Josephine Durietz came from different industries with a passion for architecture and interior design to establish Durietz Design and Development. Uprooting their lives in Stockholm, the couple set out to transform historic buildings on the island of Mallorca through a hands-on approach.

Upon entry at their latest project Camp Roig 31, a grand arch draws the eye straight to the home’s courtyard. Camp Roig 31 features one central living-dining area, as well as a veranda that opens out to the outdoor living area and a more intimate attic living room on the third floor.

Josephine and Christoffer’s attention to detail is reflected in their determination to include custom furniture and artwork in the home. In the living room, a marble table and daybed, both designed by Durietz Design and Development, accompany a Cappelen Diymr rug and the Cassina 053 Lounge Chair. The dining room caters to socialising, where a dining table is surrounded by solid walnut and cotton cord Josephine Chairs, also designed by Durietz Design and Development. In the office, the desk and shelving unit were designed by the duo, just as the coffee table in the lower living space. Josephine’s artwork and sculptures also feature throughout the home.

“The Camp Roig 31 courtyard by night needs to be experienced. The hot still-standing summer air, the sun heated tiles, the almost eerie silence and the pitch dark starry sky… it feels like a giant private living room with no ceiling.”

Described by Durietz Design and Development as the “most precious gem of the house,” the kitchen features an Italian cream travertine bench, custom made walnut cabinetry, Vola tapware and Miele appliances. It’s complete with a breakfast corner and an original restored fireplace. The Mallorcan escape also includes a yoga room, laundry room, home office, and wine cellar. The cellar houses 150 bottles of Camp Roig 31 wine, produced locally on the island at Bodegas Son Puig.

The arches in the roofed terrace frame the picturesque view of Alaro in the evening sun, overlooking the generous pool and courtyard area below. The outdoor area features an outdoor kitchen and dining area on the original foundations of the building.

Durietz Design and Development’s reclaimed Mallorca townhouse has an updated Art Deco charm while also paying homage to its traditional Spanish roots. Its bespoke features and raw materiality ensure Camp Roig 31 is an exotic escape that embodies a distinctly Spanish take on slow living.
