We came across the work of product designer Caroline Olsson recently after Est contributor Maxine Riedmaier bought Olsson’s Pencil Light to our attention. Designed as both a lamp and a container, Olsson’s design uses birch, aluminium, steel, copper and brass in its construction.
Having launched four new products this year at Milan Salone Satellite, the Epaulette, Donut, Pencil Light and Switch, Olsson has been showing her wares in Design shows around both Europe and the UK.
We love the designers creations both for their from and their function, from the Curious light which takes inspiration from a wooden pencil case, the Donuts mirror to the Turn lamp inspired by wooden work benches used in Norway and made from birch and mouth blown glass.
The discovery of Olsson’s beautifully turned wooden creations had us wincing in memory of the cheeseboard monstrosities produced in Wood Technics during high school. Not pretty. And no comparison.
