Nestled between a creek and a pine forest in the south of Ibiza, Cala Molí by Ibiza Interiors blurs the boundaries between indoors and outdoors while embracing the region’s culture and traditional craftsmanship.

Capturing the essence of Mediterranean design, Ibiza Interiors were enlisted to revive an original mid-century home on Ibiza. Blending raw materials with contemporary pieces, the studio have articulated a warmth and softness synonymous with the authentic Ibizan design spirit.

The kitchen cabinetry is custom-made in warm oak.

Designer Jurjen van Hulzen founded Ibiza Interiors in 2014, combining his experience running an architecture practice and a high-end furniture design store in Amsterdam. With a team of architects and designers, Ibiza Interiors collaborates on projects of varying scales across Ibiza and internationally. Their signature approach combines contemporary design and rustic charm, as seen in Cala Molí’s vintage pieces, sourced from Ibiza Interiors’ own furniture and design store, The Modern, based in Ibiza and Amsterdam.

Their latest venture has landed them in the south of Ibiza, overlooking the Balearic Sea. Well-known for its beaches, the region is also known for its quaint villages that contrast the island’s bustling atmosphere elsewhere.

The Spanish Finca inspired the renovation – the traditional name for a cottage or farmhouse in the countryside – particularly, through Ibiza Interiors’ emphasis on natural materials, fluidity between indoors and outside and a connection with the landscape.

Ibiza Interiors focused on evoking a sense of place throughout the home, reflected in their commitment to local craftsmanship. Custom furniture by Can Castello Ibiza is integrated into each space, while the traditional stone flooring is reminiscent of winding pathways in local villages. A connection to the landscape was also important to create a sense of place, as seen through the large sliding glass doors and conservatory-like dining room that invites natural light deep into the communal spaces.

Textural, organic elements further complement the use of stone, such as the limewash-painted walls and shelves, timber accents, rattan furniture and lighting – and the sculptural fireplace that anchors the living room. The Camaleonda sofa by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia is a statement piece in the living room. It plays to the soft and organic theme that runs through all of the furniture and objects within.

Overlooking the water, the outdoor area embraces the home’s aspect and seclusion. As designer Jurjen van Hulzen points out; “facing the sea, the turquoise pool seems to be extracted from it”. The outdoor kitchen and dining area extend the possibility for entertaining en plein air, featuring a custom-made stone oven and raw stone sink.

In their commitment to creating a sense of belonging inside and out, Ibiza Interiors have created an authentic Mediterranean retreat founded on the principles of quality design and craftsmanship.
