After its unveiling at imm cologne 2020, we’re placing a spotlight on The Cassina Perspective Goes Outdoor: a first and complete collection for the open air.
Cassina has stepped beyond interiors with its pioneering approach to design, offering the opportunity to create completely furnished living and dining spaces en plein air.
The Cassina Perspective Goes Outdoor: a first and complete collection for the open air encompasses innovative new designs while revisiting household icons for the outdoors. Contemporary designers Rodolfo Dordoni, Phillippe Starck and Patricia Urquiola are the esteemed names behind the launch, alongside classic designers from the Modern Movement; Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand.
Warm finishes, textured materials and tropical, rich colours characterise their move to elevate our outdoor spaces. The collection comprises of playful pieces such as Patricia Urquiola’s Trampoline Love Bed and innovative material use, like the Dine Out Round Table by Rodolfo Dordoni. What all share is an inherent respect for where they sit in nature.
Tapping into our desire to congregate outdoors, we’ve handpicked nine favourites from The Cassina Perspective Goes Outdoor: a first and complete collection for the open air below. See the full collection launching in Australia in spring 2020 exclusively through Space Furniture.

Fenc-e Nature Sofa by Philippe Starck
Setting out to epitomise laid-back elegance in a lifestyle collection, the Fence-e Nature sofa captures designer Philippe Starck’s inspiration and deep respect for the environment. “Fenc-e Nature is the dream of a life in harmony with Nature; elegant and respectful. It is not a project, it is a lifestyle proposition,” Philippe Starck says.
Through organic forms and tactile, natural elements, Fence-e Nature defines Phillippe Starck’s collaboration with Cassina to reconceptualise a classic sofa in avant-garde materials. Along with the three-seater sofa, the Fence-e Nature collection spans a two-seater sofa, armchair and coffee table that creates a timeless and durable collection.
Doron Hotel Outdoor Armchair by Charlotte Perriand
Design luminary Charlotte Perriand had a deep love of the mountains. This informed much of her work, exploring the relation between man and nature through using natural materials. The Doron Hotel armchair was designed by Charlotte Perriand in 1947, for the Méribel les Allues and the Hôtel Doron, one of the first chalet-hotels in the same resort. Cassina have now created an outdoor version of the armchair in teak, in collaboration with her daughter Pernette Perriand Barsac.
Table Ö Plateu Interchangeable Outdoor by Charlotte Perriand
The Table Ö Plateu Interchangeable designed by Charlotte Perriand has also made its way into Cassina’s outdoor collection. First produced in 1937 and later produced in different materials, the prized piece has been developed for outdoor use, through a solid teak structure that supports a Carrara marble top.
Trampoline Love Bed by Patricia Urquiola
Patricia Urquiola is never short of unique ideas that tap into the art of living well. Just as the name suggests, the Trampoline Love Bed was inspired by the humble trampoline. “During a trip to Greenland I noted these little trampolines outside the locals’ houses,” Patricia Urquiola says. “This playful object inspired me to design Trampoline, a friendly haven to enjoy the outdoors in great comfort,” she says.
The Trampoline Love Bed is a ‘joyful’ interpretation of furniture for lounging open-air, designed as a comfort nest, with the option of a canopy to shelter from the sun.
Bowy Outdoor Low Table by Patricia Urquiola
Patricia Urquiola has many iconic objects to her name. In the outdoor realm, the Bowy Outdoor range has joined in on the fun, with the launch of an outdoor version of the Bowry coffee table. Patricia Urquiola holds firm her respect for nature in all of her designs, focusing on using materials in new and exciting ways. The Bowy Outdoor coffee table is made from textured stainless steel and a recycled material top.
LC3 Outdoor Collection by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand
Just as the LC7 Outdoor Collection, the LC3 Outdoor Collection – the esteemed collaboration between design monarchs Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand – has been given a fresh new look through the exploration of fabrics and finishes. These outdoor versions also carry the designers’ signature, logo and production number; maintaining the same stamp of authentic design.
Dine Out Round Table by Rodolfo Dordoni
The Dine Out Round Table by Rodolfo Dordoni is a sculptural exploration of the traditional outdoor dining setting. With a palette reflective of its surrounds, the Dine Out Round Table has a conic base and top available in various finishes. Robert Dordoni has explored a number of materials in the Dine Out Collection, such as concrete, teak and terrazzo. A stackable chair and armchair are included within the Dine Out family.
Sail Out Sofa by Rodolfo Dordoni
Rodolfo Dordoni designed the Sail Out Sofa to reflect the spirit of 1950s holiday resorts. The modular sofa reminisces on the inflatable canvas mattresses, lifting cues from its soft shape with individually padded strips inserted into the upholstered stitched pockets.
“Today outdoor furniture doesn’t only need to perform, it also requires aesthetics,” Robert Dordoni says. “Sail Out is a modular, extremely flexible upholstered sofa with an ironic character,” he says. Comfortable to its core, Rodolfo Dordoni pitched Sail Out Sofa as a revolution for outdoor furniture. The Sail Out range also includes a round pouf in two sizes and a single low table.
LC7 Outdoor Collection by Charlotte Perriand
Both inside and out, the LC7 Collection is widely-loved. So, what better way to celebrate its significance than through a new range of fabrics and finishes fit for an outdoor space? See five new tones of textured black, brown, green ivory and taupe for the frame, and new fabrics with such a refined quality, they could be mistaken for indoor use. These new fabrics and finishes also apply to the LC1 sling-back chair, the LC6 dining table, the LC7 small swivel armchair, the LC8 swivel stool and the LC10-P low tables.
