Six homes make a splash with an indoor pool – enjoyed regardless of the weather or season.

Natatoriums, rooms with pools, are private sanctuaries that create a sense of seclusion only experienced indoors. In this design covet, we take a deep dive into seven of the most inspiring residential indoor pools from across the globe.

St Vincents Place by B.E Architecture

Described as a “modern renaissance”, B.E Architecture have maintained a strong reference to the past in their reinvention of St Vincent’s Place. Nodding to the Roman era, they introduced a cave-like indoor pool on the lower ground level – like a Brutalist communal bath. The natatorium is clad in grey stone, creating a space for reflection and tranquillity.

    Pott’s Point by Flack Studio

Described as a love letter to Sydney, Potts Point is a four-storey home that melds together Art Deco accents, contemporary form and beachside playfulness. Flack Studio designed an underground pool that encapsulates the home’s Art Deco personality with high gloss walls and ceilings, soft green paint and nostalgic striped mosaic tiles.

Curatorial House by Taylor Pressly Architects and Tyler Aspen Edmonds

Art meets design in the Curatorial House, a five-storey home located in Melbourne’s Toorak. The home’s indoor pool has the generosity and sleekness of a boutique hotel, as it overlooks the city skyline through large glass windows. Deep tones from the pool’s small mosaic tiles and concrete walls enhance the impressive view beyond.

    Casa E by Marina Senabre

Casa E is located in the green hills of Menorca, one of Spain’s Balearic Islands, across two separate structures. Marina Senabre ensured that the home had a strong connection to its countryside landscape, inciting her choice to include an indoor pool in the guest area. With a wide window facing the countryside, this space is Marina’s favourite aspect of the Casa E project.

    Project DT by JUMA Architects

Project DT is tucked behind a classic facade lovingly restored by JUMA Architects. The lower level of JUMA Architects’ project is an entire private sanctuary, complete with a gym, sauna and 15-metre pool. The residence’s pool, enveloped in sandstone blocks, enjoys the garden’s seclusion, with access to sunlight.

    Belgian Farmhouse by Pieter Vanrenterghem

The Belgian Farmhouse is the restoration of an old working farm, bringing together a collection of buildings to create an expansive rural escape. Inside an unassuming gable-roofed building, Pieter Vanrenterghem designed a fitness space complete with a long pool underneath. White walls meet natural stone blocks and blue tiles, emulating a classic indoor swimming pool.
