All too often, we are compelled to fill empty spaces. Thankfully restraint is at the core of this Victorian terrace transformation from Edwards Moore, where light-filled voids are the leading design principal. This is perfectly paired with dramatic cabinetry and wardrobes by Poliform, which act like anchors in a sea of glass and light. It’s the opposing visual impact of full height windows and Poliform’s seamless cabinetry that create a hybrid of contemporary classicism that we just can’t resist.
It’s hardly a surprise that updates to traditionally dark Victorian terraces are already some of our favourite transformations to cover – and this home is no exception. The warm familiarity of corniced ceilings and classic fireplaces create an ideal contrast to streamlined fixtures and modern glazing, but it takes a special synergy, evident here in Poliform’s close working relationship with the client and architects of the double-story home, to create the cohesion needed to create a family home.
The design is a study in harmonious tones, with dark mirrors and charcoal fixtures providing depth to pristine white walls and stained oak parquetry floors. Full-height internal glazing feeds light into once dark pockets of the home. Large, deep-set windows at the rear of the home look out onto a modern garden with landscape design by TCL Studio. The design culminates with the hollow void, flooding the home’s centre with soft light, that is the real architectural prize of the home. The cavity acts as a conduit of light through the interior, creating a feature around which the home flows.

The extension built at the rear of the home houses the kitchen, where Poliform’s sleek charcoal cabinetry takes centre stage. Elegant lines contrast with an inviting tactility on the modular, modern fittings. Meanwhile the stately master bedroom features Poliform’s Senzafine wardrobe in spessart oak – as luxurious as it is bold, it’s befitting of a home that matches grand vision with reductive refinement.
