As the Woolloomooloo Wharf in Sydney celebrated its 100th birthday, Ovolo Hotels made themselves at home in their new location.
After the success of Ovolo Laneways hotel in Melbourne, the Hong Kong-based operators again partnered with leading international design practice HASSELL to realise its bold design vision. Just as the wharf’s rich history contrasts with the shining city it calls home, the design response juxtaposes old and new, light and dark, coastal and urban.
To inject vitality into the hotel, HASSEL first transformed the uninviting wind tunnel into a ‘laneway’ featuring a series of pavilions and an avenue of tress. This created an atmosphere at once intimate and celebratory of the building’s heritage. Within this laneway, guests find the reception, a bar, a library and private dining areas.
With guests at the heart of the design process, Ovolo Woolloomooloo embodies everything the brand stands for: youth, energy, accessibility and effortless with a touch of cheek. This is evident throughout the hotel – from the staff uniforms through to the free, unlimited WiFi and daily happy hour.
Marrying a disruptive, technology-led take on modern travel with design that captures the essence of Sydney life, Ovolo Woolloomooloo provides guests with all the comforts of luxury and modern hospitality right in the heart of the city.
