Melbourne-Based Studio Hecker Guthrie Appoints Two New Directors

One of the esteemed 10 for 2023, Hecker Guthrie, have been leaders in the Australian design space for more than twenty years. Under the direction of Paul and Hamish, the studio has carved out a reputation for authentic, considered spaces that you can’t help but feel drawn to – as seen in their most recent Brighton Residence.

Long-serving members of the Hecker Guthrie team, Kymberley and Stacey were able to seamlessly transition into their new leadership roles alongside Paul and Hamish. We caught up with all four to discuss this exciting milestone and what it means for the studio moving forward.

Kymberley and Stacey, congratulations on your recent appointment as directors. What are you both most excited about entering into the role?

Kymberley Gim: We’re excited to bring our clients, peers and collaborators along for this next chapter of the Hecker Guthrie story. We have been working with Hamish and Paul in the leading sector of the business for quite some time now, and we can’t wait to develop those relationships even further.

Stacey Van Harn: Expanding our management team means adding another layer of experience and perspective to strengthen the studio’s core beliefs. We look forward to building on what Hamish and Paul have already achieved and bolstering the standard of work that they have become so known for. 

Paul and Hamish, what does this decision mark for Hecker Guthrie?

Paul Hecker: We are excited to see the Hecker Guthrie brand grow to represent more than just ‘Paul and Hamish’. Kym and Stacey have been with us for a long time; they know us and our foibles and offer a high level of expertise and knowledge.

Hamish Guthrie: Kym and Stacey are not afraid to challenge our ideas and expectations, which brings freshness and diversity to the Hecker Guthrie brand. They have contributed significantly to some of the studio’s most notable projects, building strong relationships with our clients and design peers.
