Showcasing a quiet and poetic vision, Melbourne-based photographer Willem-Dirk du Toit captures the Milan apartment of Italian designer Henry Timi.
Milan based artist and designer Henry Timi is known for designing organic shapes, playing with proportion and scale and reinventing the concept of ‘void space’ within his work. Exploring the use of natural materials such as timber and stone, Henry Timi often draws on an aesthetic that is both minimalist, monastic and pristine.
With each piece from his collections handmade in Italy, Henry Timi is celebrated for his simplicity and refusal of the unnecessary with each of his designs working to reveal these materials in their most raw, purist form. Exuding a reserved elegance and honesty, each collection reflects his minimalist vision and ideology of simplicity as a designer.
Vboaustralia are the exclusive distributor of Henry Timi in Australia and New Zealand. Home to the two luxury Italian brands, VBO is a go-to for industry insiders, architects and designers. As our eyes on the ground during Milan Design Week 2019, Melbourne based photographer Willem-Dirk du Toit was invited inside Henry Timi’s Milan home.
This piece originally appeared in est magazine issue 33.
“Stone, wood and metals empower me and give me pure energy and absolute inspiration, to create a new life out of them.”

Timi’s favourite elements throughout his apartment are the arches that were part of the former 20th-century building.
“Beauty is concealed inside the hidden detail, which is designed with the mind, dreamt with the heart and lived with the soul.”
