  • Ivanhoe House by Full of Grace Interiors

Full of Grace Interiors fuse vintage details with contemporary practicality to design a timeless home in Melbourne’s Ivanhoe.

Located in Melbourne’s north, this two-storey Ivanhoe home was originally built in the 1940s, with an interior reflective of this design era. Full of Grace Interiors founder Therese Carrodus was tasked with transforming the dated home, inviting light, warmth and livability into each space.

The clients briefed Full of Grace Interiors to remodel their home to be both visually engaging and highly functional. The result: an inviting open layout and large rear extension, with natural light warming the home and alfresco area.

Full of Grace’s design response was to craft a unique atmosphere in each space, shaped by bespoke design details, and a tone-rich, assured colour palette. The kitchen is both nostalgic and modern, accented by a curved, aged-brass leg, juxtaposing the timber and Arabescato stone island.

An in-built fireplace is at the centre of the living space, with a terrazzo stone hearth that also lines the custom joinery. Pictured on the left are original 60s leather armchairs by Artifort, and on the opposite side is a black and white space-age armchair, also from the 60s.

Vintage dining chairs and the Artek A110 white pendant lights echo the conversation between past and present throughout.

The living space is full of life and retains the kitchen’s warmth through statement art and furnishings, including the original 60s leather armchairs by Artifort and the custom-made coffee table designed by Therese herself. As a meeting place for past and present, the living space transpires as an area for everyone to love.

Statement natural stone features in each space; Arabescato marble in the kitchen, terrazzo throughout the living area, a rich green marble in the main bathroom and Calcutta Viola in the ensuite. This stone contributes to each space’s individuality while still collaboratively responding to the brief.
