Explore a collection of kitchens from homes in Australia and abroad awash with a striking green palette.

Green kitchens denote certain energy; symbolising freshness, balance, renewal and nature. Whether it’s in a house perched on a rocky outcrop in Greece or inside a home embedded in its leafy surrounds in suburban Sydney, this edit of green kitchens shows how surprisingly versatile the viridescent colour is and how it can evoke an innate sense of calm.

Lindfield by Polly Harbison Design and Arent&Pyke

Asked to treat the garden as ‘the star of the show’, Polly Harbison Design and Arent&Pyke’s Lindfield home responds to the lush surrounds through a connected indoor-outdoor relationship and jewel-like viridescent tones. Forest green, marble and timber come together in the elegant kitchen to reflect the greenery; alternating green and grey diamond-laid terrazzo tiles also honouring the home’s Federation heritage.

    DB11 House by Framework Studio

Framework Studio imbued their DB11 House kitchen in Amsterdam with soft sage tones, to reflect the leafy streets of the Oud-Zuid neighbourhood. The soothing green cabinetry, mushroom-toned, veined stone and a statement Oluce Atollo lamp all play on a satisfyingly cohesive colour and material palette.

    Orchard House by Chelsea Hing

Chelsea Hing’s eccentric Orchard House is replete with a pine-green kitchen at its core. Sleek, handleless gloss cabinetry and a leather-finished marble bench play on the pungent colour, while sheepskin bar stools and a brass support beam create tactile tension.

Rose Bay by Fiona Lynch Office

Fiona Lynch Office designed the Rose Bay kitchen for a high-profile chef with a love for entertaining. A thread of green runs prominently throughout, in the two-tiered stone island benchtop and lacquered-oak kitchen cabinetry in eucalyptus. Here, family and friends can gather in a relaxed dining setting.

    Patio House by OOAK Architects

Cantilevering over a rugged cliff in Karpathos, Greece, Patio House by Stockholm-based architecture practice OOAK Architects acts as an extension of the natural landscape by blurring the lines between inside and out. A moss-green timber kitchen doesn’t leave it all to the dramatic Aegean sea views inside, paired with a warm gold-veined marble benchtop and simple stainless steel fixtures. Through its vibrant and unexpected colouring, the green kitchen embraces traditional European coastal living.

Belgian House by Thomas Geldof and Carmine Van der Linden

Thomas Geldof and Carmine Van der Linden embarked on a mission to imbue this two-storey Belgian apartment with a palette fitting to its location, reminiscent of seaweed, sand and Marram grass banks. The birch cabinetry in the kitchen is a direct reference to the sea-green setting, working in tandem with the Alga Marina marble. Together with the muted green kitchen, the terrazzo flooring is a subtle nod to the appearance of wet sand, cultivating a sense of harmony with the surroundings.
