Christine Rose took a calm and collected approach to designing her own contemporary family home in Lysterfield, Victoria.
Christine Rose wore multiple hats while designing this Lysterfield Home; she was the client, designer, stylist and project manager. Envisioning a home that lifted cues from resort-style luxury, Christine set out to embrue her home with a sense of flow and places to unwind.
Dousing the home in milky tones and following a less but better philosophy, Christine has designed a functional family home that feels like an escape every day of the week.

Extensive custom joinery is featured in both the kitchen, butler’s pantry and living space. Fixtures follow the same top-tier criteria, with Rogerseller tapware in both the kitchen and bathroom spaces.

Christine says she set out to create a sense of fluidity in her home. “The home has a grand entrance and a hallway that opens up from the moment you walk through the doors,” she says. “We have a large home but the spaces are intimate.” The entire home is enveloped in floor-to-ceiling windows, connecting all areas to the outdoors – as though it is just an extra room of the home. The outdoor area is separated into a pool house, entertaining lounge, outdoor dining and children’s play zone. Guest quarters and the children’s zone are located on the second level.
Naturally, the glazing has drenched the home in natural light. “The void expanding the whole length of the home brings in the morning sun and light throughout the day, bouncing off the chalky hue surfaces,” Christine says. To establish the soft material palette, Christine selected Danish white oak, natural quartz stone and Italian raw linen, while adding warmth with handpicked objects and art.
Christine says her selection was based on how the material, finish or furnishing made them feel, rather than what’s on-trend. “We lead busy lives, so with this in mind, we ensured the harmonious colour palette was subdued, thereby creating a calming and relaxing mood,” she says. In this way, Christine has designed a functional family home that makes the best use of the space it occupies, while prioritising calm.
