Artist Marisa Purcell is in her final week of exhibiting at the Edwina Corlette Gallery in New Farm, Brisbane. Capturing the ‘in between’ of the empirical world of knowing and the unknown, Purcell’s works in oils, acrylics and watercolours are alluringly beautiful for both their ethereal aesthetic and the symbiotic notions for everyday life.
In her latest series of work, the artist stretches the paints physical qualities by layering thinly veiled colours upon one another, with the paint then pooling and slowly drying in between each application. In turn, this process allows the shape and scale of the layers to then take on a graphic rhythm of their own.
Our favourite piece, Possible Worlds VII, as seen below, is still available for sale if you like it too. Beat you to it?
