Nine Yards Eatery by Golden

Melbourne-based interior design studio Golden convert a former stable into an Australian-inspired eatery in the heart of South Melbourne.

Situated in one of Melbourne’s coveted inner-city suburbs, Nine Yards Eatery by Golden draws influence from the Australian landscape and its textures.

The design studio have transformed what was once a stable into a destination restaurant showcasing a modern Australian menu. With an extensive range of house-made, locally-sourced ingredients and great coffee, Nine Yards provides a homely atmosphere with authentic roots.

Head through the main door of the heritage-fronted former stables and you’ll find yourself surrounded in the colours and textures of Australia’s flora. Eucalyptus-green cabinetry and custom Australiana upholstery by Melbourne designer Louise Jones pay homage to the country’s native plants, while recycled timber and stained Tasmanian oak veneer evoke a sense of warmth.

A blackbutt timber island bench separates the dining zones, where curved timber booths with rattan inlay are complemented by the Iconic Thonet dining chairs. The chevron-patterned timber veneer ceiling adds textural interest and provides a visual connection for the natural materials, illuminated by the large windows.

Reminiscent of the red desert, deep terracotta hues have been introduced in the Tiento inset table tiles and leather upholstery. Internal wall panelling painted in Dulux Bogle further draws on the native-inspired colour palette, subtly evoking an image of the Australian bush.

Outside, the bluestone facade has been painted white with decorative mouldings to match. Mimicking a traditional Australian cottage, the robust tin roof frames the building, while black doors and rust-coloured seating contrast the white exterior.

Through the thoughtful application of colours and materials, Golden have successfully captured the Australiana theme in a refined and relaxed hospitality setting. For a quality food offering and an inviting atmosphere, keep Nine Yards Eatery on your must-visit list in 2020.
