Once a dilapidated and damp cottage, this Northcote based home in Melbourne has been given a new lease of life thanks to the Heartly design team and builder Ben Thomas. Having to almost totally rebuild the home, the Heartly team worked closely with client Kate Symons, builder Ben Thomas and landscape designer Mud Office to ensure the original character of the home was maintained throughout. Adding a sense of warmth and a contemporary edge were considered essential to the design brief in order to create this much loved family home.

Making good use of the limited space on a reasonably tight budget, Heartly worked with the home owners in editing ideas while ensuring a sense of ownership and connection to the home they were creating.

Hi – We reside in Kyneton Victoria and have a house with a facade similar to the Northcote House above. Our place has the door on the RHS with another room under a pitched roof on the LHS. Our windows are a lead light diamond shape in the top window panes but the bedroom is exactly the same as the one on the Northcote House. Our roof is green colourbond. We have extensively modified and revamped inside but are now pondering what to paint the outside; whether to paint the trim a different colour etc. What do you suggest? A hint would be nice. Also can be pin exactly what year it belongs to – 1920/1930/1940. I’ve searched long and hard for a similar design and to date have only found the Northcote House. Cheers – Janine
