Melbourne-based interior architecture practice Studio Tate specialise in creating spaces with personality and their latest project in Melbourne’s inner city suburb of Prahran displays all the hallmarks of the young family that live here. Located off a laneway, this double storey house has undergone a major renovation with all but two existing red brick walls demolished in the process. Reconfiguring the tight floorpan, Studio Tate introduced natural light to the interior and added warmth through the use of materials and finishes. A heavy use of timber throughout and back accents add depth and interest to the overall scheme.

The Prahran Y house is a successful culmination of good design and great location. Here, Studio Tate has created a family home in a small inner urban space that provides everything needed for family life with the convenience of living in the city on the doorstep. The versatile use of space was front of mind in the redesign with rooms like the garage created to act as both playroom or extra bedroom as required.
