Photographed in Nicole’s own apartment after 200 days under lockdown, ‘Home is Shelter’ expresses the poetry she found light as the seasons changed and the small but beautiful feeling of optimism returned. Spending day after day watching the afternoon sun move through the space, filtering through trees and blinds, Nicole developed a renewed appreciation for her home. The resulting compositions are minimalist, yet they are not hard. Rather, the soft, ephemeral quality of the natural light is dreamy – almost painterly – against the monochromatic surface of the wall, capturing the quiet beauty of those moments.
