Peter Summers creates work that is subtle, reductive and expressive. His paintings are of open spaces, pared back to the fundamental form. Colour that appears singular, is in fact forged out of many hues. The paintings are built up layer by layer with various colours of alternately opaque and translucent oil paint. The explorations of colour, light and hue create an image of evocative stillness. Peter’s hope is that the apparent quietude that underpins his work, is an initial transitory stop; that the viewer goes further within these spaces to explore oneself and their relationship to the present moment.
