Sticking to the aesthetic foundations of clean lines, immaculate fabrications, and unfussy luxury, the new spring lookbook by Protagonist has us weak at the knees.
Pieces like the robe coat in suede or the chocolate croc bolero might seem impossible to wear, but in the Protagonist woman’s closet, both would feel right at home with the well-worn Levis and paper-thin white tees. Perfect statements that balance both restraint and distinction.
The androgynous appeal of the birks (in this case very Blahnik) are in keeping with some of the other silhouettes: the pyjama-style tops, black nylon jackets, simple tailored trousers. The shirting, one of the label’s emphases from day one, was alternately crisp and louche with wide cuffs, or with shawl collars and delicate button detailing.
These are pieces that will evolve from season to season and worn in new ways… always with the emphasis on the woman wearing them.
