The Sandringham House by Ali Ross Design cultivates modern Australian style for a family.
Melbourne-based Ali Ross Design have a knack for transforming family homes into a contemporary haven. Heading to the bay for their latest project, an extension and addition onto a quaint Californian bungalow, Ali Ross Design have preserved the home’s original charm while articulating a modern Australian spirit through light and materials.

The kitchen features the Hay About a Stool, while the living room built-in storage unit houses the Flos Taccia Light and artwork by Emily Persson.
Ali Ross Design introduced a modern black timber addition to the existing home, complete with spaces for a family of five to both relax and convene. The north-facing courtyard lets light stream into the home, connecting the interior to the garden. Sliding doors allow the dining area and the generous deck space to come together for entertaining guests.
The kitchen is the home’s highlight. A mixture of crisp white and black finishes complement warm timber cabinetry, complete with a soft marble benchtop and splashback. The About a Stool from Hay is part of the home’s contemporary spin, establishing a family space within the kitchen. Next to the kitchen is a generous open-plan family space.
The dining area enjoys a play of natural light and greenery, with the Kaare Klint Pendant suspended weightlessly over the dining table. Thonet Bentwood chairs provide space for entertainment, convention and discussion. Just like the garden, the clients’ own artwork adds a pop of colour.

“The interior has a tremendous sense of space and light. It’s relaxed and inviting and most importantly family friendly.”
