This compact, inner city terrace based in Sydney’s Surry Hills has undergone an extensive renovation in order to introduce light and a pervading sense of space throughout. Charged with the role of reconfiguring the two-storey home and introducing new elements to open up the space, architecture firm Benn + Penna have created a floorplan that provides an open plan kitchen and dining area that flows out to the courtyard and BBQ beyond bi-folding glass doors. To overcome the lack of natural light, a large scale skylight has been designed to sit above the staircase sitting in the middle of the house, effectively allowing light to flood through to the lower levels.

Oak flooring and cabinetry are further complemented by the choice the furnishings of this inner city terrace. The A Joints Bench Seat and Dining Table by Henry Wilson feature in the open plan living and dining area.
