We have gained whole new level of appreciation for the beauty of flat pack furniture after seeing the Bouroullec brothers new sofa design for Danish design brand, Hay. Designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have created the Can sofa, a customisable self-assembly design that can be put together by any amateur at home.
Once assembled, the tubular steel framework provides the support for the sides and back of the seat made from stretched fabric across the supporting poles. Available in either two seater or three seater options, the cushions can be removed so that the sofa can form a double bed. “The idea was to do something simple to buy, with different combinations of colour,” explains Ronan Bouroullec. With the rise in online furniture customisation and sales, the Can sofa meets the demand for those wanting a seating option that is both affordable and available on demand.
