Tokyo Tribal Collection | Nendo

In support of the local Asian artisan community, Japanese design studio Nendo has collaborated with design firm industry+ in Singapore to produce a tight furniture range consisting of stools, chairs, tables and shelves that have been handmade by local crafts men and women.

Coinciding with the MAISON&OBJET ASIA 2015 trade fair, Nendo has launched a collection of pieces designed to compliment the modern urban living environment. The simple, compact collection uses solid oak and volcanic sand plaster combined with bamboo rattan that has been hand woven by artisans from the Philippines. The melding of materials into one another reflects Nendo’s conceptual idea that each individual piece combines to form a tightly-knit ‘tribe’ that is far greater than the sum of its parts. BUT if we were forced to choose a tribe leader here, we would have to say the black bench stool with double basket ‘back support’ has our vote. Who has yours?
