Established in 2010, Tribe Home specialises in beautiful, tailored and sophisticated hand made rugs for the home. With an obvious love for colour and pattern, owner Tina Richards is passionate about textural and graphic floor coverings and sharing them with the world. Produced by artisans based in India, Tribe rugs are made from either cotton or New Zealand wool, or eco friendly hemp all using fair trade practices.
A rug has the magical powers of pulling a room together and the ability to make a house feel like a home. Tribal Home may just have the finishing touch that you have been looking for – you just didn’t know it…until now.
Tina shares with us a little insight into the creation and operation of Tribe Home
How long have you been trading? Tribe Home turned 3 in April this year.
Describe your product line. Beautiful and unique hand woven wool, cotton and Hemp Flat Weave Rugs and Dhurries that suit both contemporary and traditional spaces. We supply to botique homeware stores, Interior Designers and Decorators around Australia.
What motivated you to start a business? A burning desire to do my own thing and be my own boss
How did you come up with your business name? It was an “Ah-ha” moment and I wanted to create a brand behind a strong business name and Tribe Home seemed to fit this.
What has been the toughest lesson you have learned to date? Maybe it is still to come? To date I would say timing is everything. From conception, sampling, manufacturing and the arrival of a shipment to customer there can sometimes be hiccups and delays when you least expect it. You just have to be patient.
What do you love most about what you do? Being able to satisfy my creative urge and building a brand from the ground up.
Where do you find inspiration to keep you motivated? People who think outside of the box, Travel, Magazines, History, Art and Design Books, Family and Friends, my partner John and our beautiful little girl Maya
