We retreat to a secluded one-bedroom villa on the Greek island of Kefalonia, overlooking the Ionian Sea by local design studio L-Architects.
The small village of Spartia lies 12km southeast of the capital of Kefalonia, known for its limestone cliffs and sandy white beaches. Off the beaten track, Spartia is the perfect place to get away, soak up the Hellenic sun and live like a native.
Villa Dione is the fifth villa collaboration between bespoke hospitality agency Kefalonian Chic Villas and L-Architects. Located on a rugged hilltop without a neighbour in sight, the holiday house is cleverly laid out in an irregular cross to reveal unobstructed open sea views from every space in the home. The 60-sq-m villa is perfect for two travellers with a kitchen, sunken lounge, bedroom and ensuite complete with a jacuzzi.
Pressed concrete forms the interior canvas, mirroring the sandy exterior and creating a seamless continuity between indoors and outdoors. Black steel framed openings create a striking contrast against the creamy walls and frame the emerald-coloured coast vistas. The only internal partition in the open-plan home is see-through; a wall of triangular breeze blocks discreetly separates the bedroom from the bathroom without interrupting the flow of the space.

The kitchen reflects a Mediterranean aesthetic through walnut cabinetry and an old timber dining table. This designated eating corner opens directly onto the alfresco dining area with a built-in barbecue, sheltered by a traditional bamboo pergola.
Villa Dione offers a true escape from reality, encouraging guests to take advantage of Kefalonia’s slower pace in an authentic design setting.

I’d sure stay here
